Uplands Outreach is fortunate to draw on the skills and expertise of the Uplands staff, and the greater Uplands community. There are many individuals who assist us on a regular basis, and who are essential ingredients in our success. Outreach has three full-time staff members and five part-time consultants.
Nicky de Bruyn - Director
Nicky has a BA (Government) and a MPA (Masters in Public Affairs, specialising in Public Management). She is a specialist in non-profit management and community development practices, with 24 years of experience in this field. Nicky is passionate about combining goodwill and good management in the non-profit arena. She also enjoys working with adults, especially school leaders, to unleash their talent. She enjoys reading, research, writing, music, and watching her son play sports. She is married to Drew Paterson and their son, Thomas, is at Uplands Prep.
Violah Moya - Operations Manager
Violah has a Primary School Teacher’s Diploma, a BA (Education) from the University of the North, an ACE (Advanced Certificate in Education) from the University of Pretoria (for Learners with Special Needs) and an ACE from the University of Johannesburg in School Management and Leadership among her qualifications. Violah was previously Principal at Sojuba Primary School and Deputy Principal of Vulamasango Primary School. She is passionate about working with children, acquiring knowledge, travelling, development, and interacting with people. Violah is married to Jan Moya and has two daughters, Fiona and Sihle (both Uplands College graduates).
Beauty Mashego - Office Administrator
Beauty has ten years of experience at Uplands Outreach. She hasa certificate in Computer Literacy and Office Administration. Beauty was born and raised in Mahushu community and attended Mntungwa Secondary School. Beauty has a wealth of knowledge about Outreach’s partner schools and is passionate about the power of education and development. She is married to Shadrack Mthambo and has three children: Gomotso, Benny and Londeka (an Uplands College graduate).
Myra Dunley-Owen - Maths Advisor Emeritus
Myra specialises in the teaching and learning of Mathematics, with a 36 year track record in this field. Myra’s qualifications include a BSc in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, UED, B Ed (cum laude). Myra is married to Bob, with two grown-up children and three young grandchildren, with another on the way. She enjoys puzzles, reading and collecting Maths books of all kinds, and travel.
Donald Chikura and Ralph Mpangane
Donald Chikura and Ralph Mpangane are Maths educators who teach at Mntungwa Secondary and Malavutela Secondary, respectively. Both are graduates of Outreach’s “Teacher for Excellence” Maths programme. Donald continues to serve on the T4E Steering Committee, and Ralph is known for his rousing speeches at our major events. Donald and Ralph both signed up to facilitate the “Learners for Excellence” programme for fifty Grade 12 Maths learners from the Insikazi school circuit. Each Saturday, they each take 25 learners through a morning of Grade 12 Maths and Physical Science.
Dr Joanne York
Joanne is a consultant who worked intensively with the L4E learners on their post-school planning process during 2014 and 2015. Jo now assists with ongoing website and Facebook management for Uplands Outreach. Jo has her Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE, UNISA) and has taught Grade 9 Maths at Uplands College during 2015. She is also a South African registered Homeopath (Masters in Homeopathy, WITS Tech) and has a BSc degree with majors in Psychology and the Sciences (WITS University). She has a real passion for helping people in whatever way necessary for them to reach their full potential, living a healthy, happy life.
Tracey is a passionate teacher with 29 years of experience in South Africa. She has a BSc Hons. in Science Education (Wits University) and is an assessment specialist working closely with the National Department of Basic Education. Tracey designed the innovative “Maths Journey” course and Physical Science revision, which ran concurrently with the Grade 12 class-work. Tracey continued to advise and assist the L4E programme from her new home in Hermanus this year.
